An Unexpected Friendship
When Courtney and Jake moved into their new neighborhood, they didn’t expect to make a furry friend. A neighborhood stray cat, a friendly tabby, quickly became an integral part of their daily walks. The couple, charmed by her affectionate nature, named her Queso and began to care for her by providing food and water. As Courtney recalls, “She’s super friendly and would accompany us on our daily walks. We feed her whenever she wants food.”
A Pleasant Surprise on the Porch
Recently, the couple noticed a change in Queso’s behavior – she became more affectionate and visited their porch frequently. The reason for this change became clear one day when they returned home to find Queso on their porch, but she wasn’t alone. A tiny kitten was accompanying her. Courtney shared the surprise: “It was definitely a surprise when she brought her kitten. She was laying on our front porch, with the kitten next to her.”
Understanding that Queso didn’t get along with their own cat, Ellie, they offered the cat mom and her kitten a safe haven on their screened-in back porch.
Nurturing New Life
The mother cat relished the attention from Courtney and Jake, but it soon became evident that the kitten, now named Beans, was underweight and needed extra care. After a vet visit, the couple took on the role of surrogate parents. “The vet gave us some formula and told us to try to feed her between feedings with her mom,” Courtney explained.

Courtney concludes with a smile, “Everything is great now. We hang out with Queso, feed her and give her pets. Beans has gained almost two ounces since we took her in and is starting to play with toys and me.”
